Personally, I like both technologies. Thermal would be my option for hunting if I had to choose only one. It’s better for me to hunt with now that I’m more comfortable with it. This is a personal viewpoint, but one that I will defend.
Night Vision scopes, on the other hand, are much easier to sight with. No one ever advises you that using a thermal scope requires special objectives. It must be able to generate thermal radiation in order to work with the scope. Even though night vision does not use a single objective, it is much easier to find targets for than thermal vision.

1. ATN THOR HD 640 – BEST CHOICE
When it is said and done, the Thor HD 640 is potentially the best scope on the market right now. There isn’t much of a difference in resolution; nearly all thermal uses the standard 640. It might seem strange to see FLIR, which I consider to be the best company, so far down the list, but FLIR lacks the extras that most of these scopes boast. Instead, they only have the highest detection and overall picture quality. If you don’t care about the extras, this is the best scope on the list.
FLIR’s RS series scopes have a typical 640 resolution and a 5x optical magnification. The photographs are much better than they will be with an optical zoom scope. It’s almost as if you’re looking through a glass optic with heat signatures when you look through this sight.
The FLIR has a variety of pallets and reticle options, so it isn’t lacking in features. It also comes with target recognition tools, which comes in handy at the range. The FLIR scope has the highest resolution detector of any optic in its price range. When hunting smaller game, this is ideal.

The ATN Thor LT Thermal is a low-cost option. This sight is part of the ATN night optics series, and I use a starlight device that they designed and developed. The LT, on the other hand, is a machine with excellent features and a reasonable price for the experienced hunter or serious tactical shooter.
